| ..::Shut It Down::..
Sad to say the day has come. This xanga is no longer. Due to an underwhelming flow of traffic and total lack of eprops or reader interaction, and just a need to move on from my teenage blogging years, I'm sorry to report that I will no longer be using this xanga on a regular basis. This isn't to say that I won't be visiting everynow and then to check on how you're all doing, but I mostlikely won't be posting anything new here, at least nothing of worth. However fear not my loyal (yet quiet) readers, I will be continuing to post at my new location: http://letters2words.blogspot.com Feel free to mozy on over. I hope you all come by, and that I won't lose your readership in the move. But I'm making it a point to at least post once every couple weeks, in fact I've had that blog for about a month now and I've got a few things up already so come on over and check it out. Thanks for your support! See you on the flip side.
| ...Please Don't Kill My Childhood::..
It seems that Hollywood has run out of ideas. Now believe me, as a writer I fully side with the WGA, but honestly there's nothing new out there anymore. Everything seems to be a sequel or a remake. As a kid I remember when we'd laugh at the idea of a sequel. They never made as much money and always seemed worse than the original. Case in point Godfather vs. Godfather 3. All that aside what scares me the most is the idea that Hollywood is going to ruin my childhood. As a kid some of my favorite shows were Knight Rider, Gladiator, and MacGyver. And any TV enthusiast (it sounds better than couch potato) like myself, knows that NBC has picked up two of my three childhood favorites. My major concern is that, like trying baby food after the age of 5, it'll make you want to vomit and forever ruin your memories of old. I have to give credit to the NEW American Gladiators, they did a pretty accurate remake of the old games, without adding too many bells and whistles to cheapen the value of pure athleticism and over exposure of spandex. However I don't remember it being so cheesey. Hulk Hogan...really? Even the responses from the contenders seem scripted (and poorly without the help of the WGA ;P). And what's the deal with this guy? Sure he could easily crush my skull with his calves, but his head looks like it's from a Ken doll. What's up with that? Though I did watch Conan who had Hulk Hogan on and Hulk said that this gladiator, Titan, was complaining about the bra like tank top he's wearing. Now Knight Rider comes on in Feb. So you'll have to wait till then to get my criticism about that show, but one thing that worries me is that the Hoff has tried before to make spin offs of the original, Knight Rider 2000, which did not go well. I had seen pictures of the mock up of the new KITT, but the early "leaked" pictures were of a weird Porsche looking car, which would be horrible seeing as the original KITT was a Pontiac Grand Am. It would just be so wrong if KITT was a German car. Luckily Knight Industries Three Thousand (that's right, he's an new model, not the Two Thousand) is going to be a Mustang Shelby GT500KR. My only major gripe (so far) is that the main character is named Mike. Really? Must we get that close to the original? It's supposed to be a continuation from the original, but just because you made KITT a 3 and not 2 doesn't mean you also have to "upgrade" Michael to Mike, he is a different character than Michael Knight just to let you know. Hopefully this won't let me down. If Knight Rider returns and fails miserably please, please oh TV don't go and destroy MacGyver too. Please don't kill my childhood.
| ..::Random Project::.. All I have for you is this short little post about my little project that I worked on this past week or so. Nothing big. I've always wanted to do a fish tank conversion. At one point I thought about doing a guitar amp fish tank, but realized getting the glass cut would be both costly and time consuming. And that idea kinda left me. Then I had a tv that died on me and I thought about making that into a fish tank also, but with the same restrictions, plus that tv was huge. And so a few weeks ago I was thinking about McGee and Me, the old kids show and remembered the gumball fish bowl. And so here is my attempt at that idea. These hooks held on the bowl. They just had to go. Scored the tab a few times and then snapped it clean off The bowl kept sliding around, but I didn't want it to be permanently attached to the base so I added some hot glue for friction and let it dry. The finished project. Placed in my apartment. My next goal is to find a small led light and run it up the center tube to light from below and enhance the color of the rocks, and hopefully get a little red color into the bowl as well. This is the beautiful betta that lives in this gumball machine. It's a crowntail betta, check out his fins. | | |
| ..::Total Neglect::..
I know I haven't been here in awhile. And I intend to explain. Firstly, it's been a crazy summer and I'm still trying to adjust to all the changes at school. Secondly, well honestly it's cause I don't get any eprops. There's no real motivation to write stuff if people don't comment when I do write things. And thirdly, Facebook. If you don't have one, get one! And if you have one and aren't my friend, add me! I've posted pictures from all my summer adventures on there, so if you come here and feel like you're missing out on what's going on in my life, maybe you should get a Facebook. I mean even some of my uncles have it. This summer was amazing. Started off with a trip up to nor cal to take a summer school class. Which I ended up dropping and just spending two weeks with my cousins. We went hunting for rattlesnakes, to the shooting range to try out a glock, and to a Giants game. Those pictures aren't on this comp so I can't share them with you. Next up was Hawaii. My family went and I got to do so many incredible things with Jenn while I was there. Here's some pictures, but there's even more on my facebook. At my great aunt's shop, which is now closed. Went with Jenn and her cousins and grandparents to the Dole Plantation Leaving the maze after an hour and a half. Snokeling, lots and lots of snokeling. Here in Paradise Cove Jenn and I swam with three huge sea turtles. Wanna see the pictures? You got to go to my Facebook. Dinner at the Ihilani with Jenn's Grandparents. Hawaii was so much fun. Great food and so much beach action. Following Hawaii was camp. I had the same guys I've had for the past two years. I decided to follow them for their last year in Jr. High Camp, but sadly I don't have nearly enough pictures, due to the required participation in games of the counselors. But here's some of what I got. Annual trip to the lake. If you can't read what's on their face, it says "We Are Amp'd!" As you can see by Jon's shirt the theme was Amp'd and also I was pair not only with Robin (for the second year) but I got to be paired with Jon Quan, which was such a blessing. Right after Jr. High Camp, I went to school. This year I'm in my own studio and I'm still trying to get the needed things to make the place complete, but I'm getting closer. It's a small place but it's much better than the dorms. At the end of the first week of school we went up to College Camp. The highlight of this year was def, the rock and paintballing. The rock was amazing despite the super low water level, as you can see by the lines on the rock. I'm a bit off with the timing but somewhere in there we went to the College Sunday School social down at Laguna Beach. And with that trip started my relentless trips to the beach this month. We got in some good boogieboarding and we've been trying to keep it up until the UC's go back or it gets too cold, which ever comes first. That's me and Emily. Two weeks ago I hit up Bolsa Chica with Jenn and discovered how great a boogieboarding wave that place has. The previous week we hit Malibu, and despite it's jacked up blowback, it's turned into a pretty decent place for boogieboarding. We're hitting that this weekend again also with Kevin. And hopefully we'll find our way to Newport one week. Well this concludeds the super long post that this xanga's been needing.
| So I'm giving the actual format of xanga a try. Anyhow. I was reading an article on MSN about how college students are going to school with far more tech gadgets in comparison with their parents. The gist of the article is basically the average teen heading into college never knew a time where calculators weren't common place and a phone in your room was almost unheard of. It got me thinking about my own college experience and the ever so cliche saying "when I was your age." "When I was your age" was so over used to the point where everyone had to walk up hills (both ways) in the snow to school. And as I'm realizing that I'm not really the little kid who I used to be, I find myself using "when I was little." I'm 21, not nearly (in my mind) old enough to start using that phrase. But then it got me thinking. If my parents had to suffer through school without a calculator and walk to school each day, what will I tell my kids? What will they have in their childhood that I didn't have. "When I was your age, I had to drive to school. We didn't have teleporters." Or perhaps "When I was your age, we used to use computers. We didn't have the luxury of personal interfaces." One of the comments the writer made was the fact that as you watch students walk into a class they're normally on their cell phones or listening to their ipods. But when they were our age they would have to talk with people as they walked to class. Or if they had no one to walk with they would have times of reflection. And I have to agree that we tend to tune others out with technology. As I write this I'm sitting in a Quickly with one of my cousins and we're both on our computers, not talking to each other. With more technology it seems that we isolate ourselves even more. So then perhaps in the future I'll be able to say "When I was your age, I actually had to go to class and talk to people face to face." In some ways the internet has allowed us to connect with one another, ie. facebook. And yet on the other hand it's distancing us from one another. With IM there seems to be less reason to meet up for coffee and talk, why leave your house to go talk when you could stay in your room and talk with your friends? Regardless of how I see the growth of technology, be it bad or good, one thing I'm sure of is that when I have kids, I'm going to tell them "when I was your age I had to walk 5 miles to school, uphills both ways, in the snow."
